What We Do
How You Can Help
AHS and Internet Archive
The Annisquam Historical Society preserves and protects the collections of documents, photographs, and artifacts in the Deluge 8 Firehouse, deposited there by generations of residents and visitors. Our goals are to catalog, curate, and develop those collections; to rehabilitate the Firehouse as an archivally safe repository for them; and to make them available to researchers and the public year-round. We aim to share Squam's amazing stories with all for generations to come. Please enjoy reading our latest Journal.

The Annisquam Historical Society has been the beneficiary of a collaboration between Boston Public Library and Digital Commonwealth. Many historical documents, plus a few books and pamphlets from the Firehouse were accepted for scanning at the library. Scanned images were then uploaded to Digital Commonwealth, a non-profit collaborative organization, that provides an internet "storefront" for organizations such as ours, to display their wares. To access our "front door" click on the link below:
There you will find a pen and ink drawing of the schooner I Am Here, and icons for ten topics beginning with Annisquam Bridge. Click on any one of the icons to see the documents that are included under that topic.
7 books or pamphlets, including a scrapbook of newspaper clippings are on a separate file on Internet Archive with the following address:
State budget line item 7000-9401 (State Aid to Regional Libraries) provides funding to the Library for the Commonwealth and helps make free digitizing services by the Boston Public Library possible. This effort needs continuing support via our legislators.
HOURS OF OPERATION:
The Firehouse is currently closed for the winter and will reopen in the Spring.
